Vidya Balan is one of the most talented actresses in India today. She was born on January 1, 1979, in Palghat, Kerala.

 Vidya is the daughter of P.R Balan. He is the Vice- President of ETC  channel and her mother Saraswathya Balan is a home-maker.

 She has an Elder sister Priya Balan works in advertising. The Indian actress Priyamani is her second cousin sister.

Education

Vidya completed her school education in St.Anthony girls convent school and completed her degree in St.Xavier’s college. She obtained a degree in sociology.

 Vidya completed her Masters degree in sociology from Bombay University.

Vidya also studied and performed in Prithvi theatres workshops.

 Her sister Priya and Vidya learned the Carnatic dance from childhood. Vidya took dance classes for students on every Sunday mornings.

Career

 At the age of 16, she appeared in the first season of Ekta Kapoor’s Hum Paanch as Radhika teenager.

 She wants to Concentrate on the film career. Parents gave support on her decision but encouraged her to complete her studies.

Vidya faced a lot of problems before she came to film industry because of overweight. She was rejected by a Tamil producer,

She got first break with ‘ chakram ‘ Malayalam movie opposite actors Mohanlal.

In 2003 she was signed to play a role in Bengali movie ‘Bhaalo Theko’ opposite actor Joy Sengupta. This movie was completed in the year 2006.

In 2006 Vidya approached  Vidhu  Vinod Chopra in Mumbai to Act lead role in “Parineeta”.

 The director has done 17 make up shoots and 40 screen tests for this role. Vidya’s hard work is a huge success to the movie.

After this movie, Vidya got a call from Tamil producer, who first rejected Vidya Balan for his film. He invited Vidya to appear in Dasavatharam opposite actor Kamal Hassan. Due to busy schedule, Vidya rejected his offer.

In Telugu, Vidya Balan appeared in The Legendary Actor Senior N.T.R Biopic, in the Lead role of N.T.R first wife. She has stolen the hearts of the Telugu audience with her performance.
