Ranveer Singh was born on July 6th, 1985, in a Sindhi family in Mumbai. His parents are Anju and Jagjit Singh Bhavnani. His grandparents moved to Bombay from Karachi (Pakistan) at the time of the Partition of India. His elder sister’s name is Ritika Bhavnani.
Singh is the cousin of Sonam Kapoor, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor.
He always wanted to become an actor. Once his grandmother asked to dance and entertain her. Singh danced on a song Chumma Chumma” from the action film, Hum which released in 1991. He felt that getting a breakthrough in the film industry was never easy. He went to the USA to study Bachelor of Arts at Indiana University.
In his studies, he took theatre as a minor subject. He came back to India and started his career as a copywriter. He joined as assistant director for some time. He later sent his portfolio to directors. He got small roles.
He received a call from the great Yash Raj Films for auditions for the film ‘Band Baaja Baarat.’ His acting skills impressed the makers. Thus, he got an offer in Band Baaja Baarat, in which Anushka Sharma played the female lead… This was the turning point for Ranveer Singh.
Later he did films like Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl, Lootera. He did Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, in which Deepika Padukone played the female lead. This was a BlockBuster.
He did a movie Gunday, alongside Arjun Kapoor in 2014. Dil Dhadakne does, Bajirao Mastani, Befikre, Padmaavat. He did a video Simmba, co-staring Sara Ali Khan and Sonu Sood. Simmba is a remake of a Telugu movie Temper; Jr NTR played the lead role in Telugu.
His next movie was with Zoya Akhtar in Gully Boy in 2019.
Singh started dating Deepika Padukone, his co-actress in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. In October 2018, they announced their marriage. The next month, they married in traditional Hindu and Sikh ceremonies at Lake Como, Italy.
