Hima Das Early Life
Hima Das born on 9 January 2000 is an Indian sprinter, she was born in Kandhulimari village, Dhing, Nagaon, Assam to Ronit and Jonali Das who are rice farmers by profession and she is the eldest of four children.
Her parents, who had four other children to feed, did not have enough money to spend on her sports training. Hima, however, was not to be deterred. She was playing all sports. She would run, play football, even kabaddi, she also loved to work on the farm and drive around in the tractor.
She attended the Dhing public high school and began playing football as a child. She played the Game with the boy students at her school and wanted to pursue a career in football.
CAREER
She is a socially-conscious teenager, who participated in a crusade to close liquor and ensure education for girl children in her village. She was spotted by a teacher of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in morigaon Assam in 2011-12 when she visited the central government-run school for a sporting event.
She won all the athletics events. Her coach told the district sports officer that she can do well if trained properly,” the physical training teacher said,’’ she was focused and wanted to win everything even as a child.
In over a year, She was a district champ but took almost two years to reach the state-level competition. In the early year of 2016, she won the 100 meters race at the state championships and later at year made it to the finals of junior athletics championship in Coimbatore without any training, stunning all.
Before this, she was in a village where she has never seen the synthetic track, said one of her coach Nabajit Malakar.
In January 2017, when directorate of sports organized a camp for budding sportsmen, Hima Came to attend and impressed everyone again.
WINNER: Nipun Das saw Hima there and asked her to get shifted to Guwahati for better training. He even paid for her stay in the state capital until the state government provided her accommodation at the sports academy in Guwahati.
